Outreach
The purpose of outreach is to
educate the congregation about the opportunities for outreach both
locally and globally the duties of outreach are as follows:
1. Act as a spokesperson for
outreach.
2. To work to raise the
awareness of the congregation about the opportunities for outreach and encourage its involvement in outreach projects.
3. Work to raise awareness of
the mission and service fund.
4. Oversee the annual mission
and service fund objective.
5. Encourage good stewardship
of environmental resources.
Samples of St. Andrews outreach programs:
Red Kettle Campaign
Volunteers from the St. Andrews congregation go to various spots
around Chatham such as Canadian Tire and the Downtown Chatham
centre to over see donations to the red kettle. All donations are
to be used for.
1. The Christmas Appeal Program
This program helps less fortunate children in Chatham Kent. Boxes
are available to collect unwrapped stocking stuffers such as toothbrushes toothpaste hats gloves school supplies and other
suitable items for children up to the age of 14.2.
Mission and Service:
Mission & Service Funds enable the United Church of Canada to provide a unique gift in its global partnerships, undesignated funds that partners use to respond to issues that are essential to the life of their communities and their global partners. Examples are the Beads of Hope Campaign, that helped to support the HIV/AIDS program. The Tsunami appeal that helped to get much needed supplies to Southeast Asia and donations to the Katrina relief fund. For more information about M&S please check out the web site

3.Student Breakfast Program:
St. Andrews supports the Queen Elizabeth Public School breakfast program by taking up loose change collections twice a year and also by various fundraisers.
4. Friendship Meals:
Once a month from September through to June, friendship meals are offered to the community and the cost of the meals are shared with Victoria Ave. United Church and St. Andrews. The meals are prepared and served at Victoria Ave. United Church with the support of volunteers from both churches. Everyone is welcome.
5.Outreach For Hunger Local Food Bank:
In the spring and the fall the congregation is asked to bring in donations of food items needed by the local food bank. A list of requested items is printed in the weekly bulletin.
The Outreach Committee works to raise the awareness of the congregation about the opportunities for Outreach, both locally and globally, and to encourage its involvement in these Outreach projects.
