Youth
Development
Ten young
people took their own journey of faith in 2006, participating in
and completing a confirmation program with Rev. Michael Brooks.
Using the United Church resource, “Get Real, Get A Life, Get
God”, the group explored many aspects of the Christian faith,
with the help of adult mentors who met with them each
month.
The group participated in several activities including a funeral
home tour, assisting with a Friendship Meal and enjoying a weekend
confirmation retreat at Five Oaks Centre in Paris, Ont.
The culmination of their efforts occurred on Pentecost Sunday,
June 4, when the youth shared their own statements of faith with
the congregation.
Senior
Youth Group
This lively group of youth, from Grades 8
to 12, is enjoying its second
year together at St. Andrew’s United Church. Led by Tasha and
Tony O’Sullivan (and with the assistance of Rev. Brooks and
Andrew Keech), members participate in a variety of fun activities
every month.
Past activities have included playing “Who Wants to be a
Christianaire?”, movie nights and Halloween and Christmas
parties. The group has also participated in fundraising for the
church, hosting its first spaghetti dinner in September 2006. They
even planned an entire Sunday morning church service which was so
successful members plan to do it again soon.
The youth group has also made a point of going out into the
community to share their faith, visiting local shut-ins and making
friends.
